Croatia is a country of crystal clear blue sea, rich in wildlife, and specific cultural heritage where even the most demanding guests can find something for themselves.

Geographical position:

Croatia is positioned at the crossroad between central Europe and Mediterranean.

Area:

Land: 56.542 km2
Sea: 31.067 km2

Population:

4.437.460;

Majority of population are Croats;

Ethnic groups: Serb, Muslim, Hungarian, Slovenian, Czech and others.

Government type:

Parliamentary democracy.

Capital:

Zagreb (779.145 st.) industrial cultural and academic center of the country.

Coastline:

5835 km (mainland 1777 km, islands 4058 km) km
Number of islands and reefs: 1185; largest islands: Krk and Cres; populated islands: 50;

Climate:

There are two climate zones in Croatia.
Inland: continental climate predominant with hot summers and cold winters;
Adriatic coast: mediterranean climate: mild winters, hot and dry summers;

Average temperature - inland: January 0 - 2°C, August 19 - 23°C;
Average temperature - coast: January 6 - 11°C, August 21 - 27°C;
Sea temperature: 12°C in winter, 25°C in summer.

Currency:

Kuna (1 Kuna = 100 Lipa).
Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Lipa, 1, 2, 5 i 25 Kuna
Paper: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 Kuna

Foreign currency:

Can be exchanged in banks, exchange bureaux, post offices and most tourist agencies, hotels and camping sites.
Bank work hours: 7 - 19 hours, monday to friday; 13 hours on saturdays
Some major banks in larger cities are even open on sundays.

Credit cards:

Most hotels, camping sites, restaurants and shops accept credit cards (American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard, and Visa).
Most towns and villages have ATM's where you can withdraw cash.

Travel papers:

Passport or other internationally recognized identity document.
Tourists can remain in Croatia for 3 months max.

Medical services:

Hospitals and clinics in major cities and ambulant hospitals and pharmacies in minor cities.
Tourists do not pay for medical services if there is signed convention on medicare between Croatia and country of origin.
Medical expenses for other people are charged directly from patient.
For patients in immediate life danger, there is emergency air (helicopter) and sea (speedboat) transport.
